Counterstroke
反击
Counterstroke turns Infantry into the instrument of a sudden offensive effort. Its defensive-sounding name is narrative colour, while its printed effect specifies an attack.

Printed ability
Attack with one friendly Infantry. It gains +2 Rank for that combat.
What it means in play
Attack with one friendly Infantry and give it +2 Rank for that combat. The Veteran Guard’s prohibition on positive Rank modifiers still prevents it from taking this bonus.
The historical lens
This is a designed tactical vignette; the card does not by its name create a reaction outside the rules for playing stratagems.
Reading the illustration
Defenders surging through a narrow gate are the source image of an army going forward.
Rank measures game combat strength, not historical seniority. Unit names and special abilities are modern design interpretations. Read the rules.
